ENRIQUE GRANADOS:Danzas espanolas, Op.37, No.2, Oriental Born in the ancient Russian village of Murom in 1920, pianist Oleg Boshniakovich began his musical training with his aunt, Anna Klekova, a celebrated teacher in Murom. In 1934, Boshniakovich moved to Moscow and entered the Central Music School of the Moscow Conservatory, and then into the Conservatory itself - studying with Professor Konstantin Igumnov. Following a brief interruption brought upon by the Second World War, Boshniakoich resumed his studies with the legendary pianist Heinrich Neuhause.

VALERI KIKTA:Easter Chants of Old Russia, Resurrect, O the Lord Valeri Kikta (October 22, 1941, in Vladmirovka, a village near Donetsk, Ukraine) is a Ukrainian classical composer. He was educated at the Moscow Choral College, then at the Moscow Conservatoire under Semyon Bogatyryov and Tikhon Khrennikov. On the recommendation of Shostakovich he moved on to post-graduate study. Kikta's compositions include ballets, symphonic, organ and choral works. These include Beyond the Verge of Darkness for tenor and orchestra, and Frescos of the St. Sofia Cathedral of Kiev for harp and orchestra. He was recorded extensively by the USSR state recording company, Melodiya in the 1970s and 1980s.

ANATOLY KISSELEV:Stichera of the Easter Stichera of the Easter Work Large Choir of Belorussian Radio and TV Chorus/Choir, V. Rovdo Conductor Anatoly Kisselev was born in Moscow in 1948, and received his training at the Moscow State Choral School (1955-65), studying with Alexander Sveshnikov, Nikolay Demyanov, Victor Rovdo, and Alexander Flyarkovsky; as well as at the Moscow Conservatory (1965-70), studying orchestration and composition with Alfred Schnittke - who recommended Kisselev to the Soviet Union of Composers.

SERGEY RACHMANINOV:Suite No.1 for 2 Pianos, Op.5, 4.Easter Turkina Duo Julia and Galina Turkina formed perhaps the most celebrated piano duo in Russia, with an active performance career spanning from 1937 to Galina's death in 1999. Both studied piano at the Central Music School in Moscow, where their principal teachers were Vasily Argamakov, Konstantin Igumnov, Ilia Kliachko, and Alexander Goldenveiser. During their illustrious careers they worked closely with a number of important composers - including Dmitri Shostakovich and Aram Khachaturian, often collaborating in preparation of a new work. Among the composers who have written works expressly for the Duo include Sergei Evseev, Vasily Argamakov, Nikolai Peiko, and American composer Jon Appleton.

In 1999 she received the Russian theater award "Magic rocker" (Moscow) as "Best Actress" for his performance as Laura in the opera "The Stone Guest" by Dargomyzhsky. The repertoire of the MB Mamsirovoy includes a large number of complicated opera roles of Russian and foreign composers, including highlights of Carmen ("Carmen" by Bizet), Rosina ("Barber of Seville" by Rossini), Cinderella ("Cinderella" by Rossini), Delilah (" Samson and Delilah "Camille Saint-Saens), Olga (" Eugene Onegin "by Tchaikovsky), Laura (" Iolanthe "Tchaikovsky), Amneris (" Aida "by Verdi), Lyubasha (" The Tsar's Bride "by N. Rimsky-Korsakov), Eboli ("Don Carlos" G. Verdi), Marina Mnishek ("Boris Godunov" by Modest Mussorgsky) and many others. MB Mamsirova leads an active concert and touring schedule. Included in The repertoire of Mamsirovoy, along with the world of classical vocal literature, are Circassian folk songs,which the singer who performs with special awe and affection. In 2001 M. Mamsirova took part in a gala concert dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Adygea with a brilliant solo concert at the State Philharmonic of the Republic of Adygea. In 2002 she performed in the city of Maikop, a joint solo soloist with the Bolshoi Theatre of Russia Roman Muravitsky tenor, and in 2006 took part in the concert in which artists celebrated the 15th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Adygea, as well as performing a solo concert, which is dedicated to her native land. For her great contribution to the development of musical culture of the Republic of Adygea Mamsirovoy was awarded the honorary title "Honored Artist of the Republic of Adygea."

Martin Luther King

From high atop beautiful downtown King Salmon, Alaska, it's time once again for Sadko's World of Music. This week we feature the work of composer Frank Martin. Frank Martin (15 September 1890 – 21 November 1974) was a Swiss >composer , who lived a large part of his life in the Netherlands Born into a Huguenot family in the Eaux-Vives quarter of Geneva, the youngest of the ten children of a Calvinist pastor named Charles Martin, Frank Martin was improvising at the piano even before he started school. At the age of nine, despite having received no musical instruction, he wrote some complete songs. He attended a performance of Bach's St. Matthew Passion when he was 12 and was deeply affected. Respecting his parents' wishes, he studied mathematics and physics for two years at Geneva University, but all the time he was also working at his composition and studying the piano, composition and harmony with his first music teacher Joseph Lauber (1864 - 1953), a Geneva composer and by that time a leading light of the city's musical scene. In the 1920s, Martin worked closely for a time with Émile Jaques-Dalcroze from whom he learned much about rhythm and musical theory. Between 1918 and 1926 Martin lived successively in Zurich, Rome and Paris. Compositions of the period show him searching for an authentic musical voice of his own. The Petite Symphonie Concertante of 1944/45 made Martin's international reputation and is the best known of his orchestral works. Epiphany

From high atop beautiful downtown Three Points, Arizona, it's time once again for Sadko's World of Music. This week we feature the work of composer Gian Carlo  Menotti . Gian Carlo Menotti (July 7, 1911 – February 1, 2007) was an Italian-American composer and librettist. Although he often referred to himself as an American composer, he kept his Italian citizenship. He wrote the classic Christmas opera, Amahl and the Night Visitors, among about two dozen other operas intended to appeal to popular taste. He won the Pulitzer Prize for two of them: The Consul (1950) and The Saint of Bleecker Street (1955). He founded the noted Festival dei Due Mondi (Festival of the Two Worlds) in 1958 and its American counterpart, Spoleto Festival USA, in 1977. In 1986 he commenced a Melbourne Spoleto Festival in Australia, but he withdrew after three years.

Devious Delius

From high atop beautiful downtown Delhi New York, it's time once gain for Sadko's World of Music. This week we feature the work of composer Frederick Delius.
Fritz Theodor Albert Delius was born in Bradford, Yorkshire, England, on 29 January 1862 to parents who had come to England from Bielefeld, Germany. Julius, his father, was a prosperous businessman in one of Yorkshire's great Victorian industries, wool. The home was a musically cultured one, and, as a boy, Fritz learned to play both violin and piano proficiently before he reached his teens. After attending Bradford Grammar School (1874-8), he spent two years studying at the International College near London, and then some apprentice years in his father's business.
These were characterized by a growing frustration with business life, and in March 1884, Fritz persuaded his father to let him try his hand at cultivating oranges in Florida, USA. His plantation, Solano Grove, was some hours upstream from Jacksonville on the banks of the St. John's River. Once there, he quickly secured a piano and found a local source for theory lessons, a Jacksonville organist named Thomas Ward, an important early influence. He also absorbed the sounds of the singing of negro workers, which were to be documented in his Florida Suite of 1886-7. Delius stayed there for a year and a half, before moving on to Danville, Virginia, with sufficient confidence to teach music in his own right.

Delius suffered severe health problems by 1910 – manifestations of the 
syphilitic infection he contracted in Florida which culminated in 
blindness and complete paralysis, although his speech and his mind 
remained unimpaired. In 1928 Delius, who had continued to compose, met a
young man who thought he could assist the stricken composer. Eric 
Fenby, a Yorkshire-born composer who greatly admired Delius' music, 
moved into the Delius home and spent the next six years taking the elder
composer's dictation. After several vain attempts at cures, Delius died
 in 1934

Known in his own time for his serious music as well as for the comic operas that have survived until our own day, English composer Arthur Seymour Sullivan was born in Lambeth, South London; the son of a bandmaster, he was encouraged to pursue his musical talent from an early age. He learned the wind instruments of his father's band and joined the choir of the Chapel Royal. At 14, he won the Mendelssohn Scholarship at the Royal Academy, and in 1858 he went to study in Leipzig, where his teachers included Ignaz Moscheles and Julius Rietz. In 1861, Sullivan began to make an impact on the London music scene. His music to Shakespeare's The Tempest was performed at the Crystal Palace winter concerts in 1862; the following year he published six Shakespeare songs. In 1864, Sullivan became the organist at Covent Garden, where his ballet L'île enchantée had its premiere. In 1867, he collaborated with F.C. Burnand on two operettas, Cox and Box and The Contrabandista. Five years later, he worked for the first time with W.S. Gilbert when they jointly created the light opera Thespis for the Gaiety Theatre. The piece was moderately successful, but not enough for its creators to continue working together immediately. In 1875, however, the theater manager Richard D'Oyly Carte reunited the to compose an afterpiece for a production of Offenbach's La Périchole. The result was Trial By Jury, a brief satire of the judicial process, featuring Sullivan's brother, Fred, in the lead. The afterpiece proved so successful that this time the partnership continued. In 1877, their full-length opera The Sorcerer premiered under Carte's auspices at the Opera Comique, followed by H.M.S. Pinafore in 1878. Pinafore proved wildly popular, solidifying a three-way partnership of Sullivan, Gilbert, and Carte that resulted in eight more operettas before a quarrel broke up the team. After a reconciliation, Gilbert and Sullivan wrote two more operas, Utopia Ltd. (1893) and The Grand Duke (1896), but these failed to catch on and the partnership ended permanently. During the run of Patience (1881), Carte moved his company from the Opera Comique to the Savoy; from then on, Gilbert and Sullivan's operas became collectively known as Savoy Operas. In these operas, Sullivan's unerring sense of musical parody, with targets ranging from Handel to Verdi, perfectly matched Gilbert's witty social satire. While Sullivan is known today for his partnership with Gilbert, he was active in other compositional forms throughout his career. One of his best known compositions in his day was The Lost Chord (1877), a song to a text by Adelaide Proctor written at the time of Fred Sullivan's untimely death. Sullivan was acclaimed for his oratorios, including The Prodigal Son (1869), and hymns, of which "Onward, Christian Soldiers" (1871) was and remains particularly popular. An "Irish" Symphony in E minor is sometimes still performed. Sullivan also composed operettas with librettists other than Gilbert; these include Haddon Hall (1892) with Sydney Grundy and The Rose of Persia (1900) with Basil Hood. In 1883, Queen Victoria rewarded Sullivan for his contributions to English music with a knighthood. Sullivan's dearest ambition was to compose grand opera. Carte, wishing to establish an English opera tradition, built the English Opera House, and here Sullivan's opera Ivanhoe, to a libretto by Julian Sturgis, premiered in 1891. The opera failed and remained Sullivan's only attempt at grand opera. Sullivan never married, but in the 1860s or 1870s he met Mary Frances (Fanny) Ronalds, an American-born woman separated from her husband who eventually settled in London. Mrs. Ronalds, who mixed in the same aristocratic and artistic circles as Sullivan, never divorced her husband but carried on a discreet relationship with Sullivan until his death in London on November 22, 1900.

Here we find off-stage trumpeters positioned in the auditorium in numbers never imagined in the preceding three versions of the work. Here, too, Beethoven invents the waltz and the interaction between conductor and orchestra as well as the intrusion of a street band leaves much to be desired.

Alla Bayanova

Bayanova was born in Kishinev in the family of an opera singer, who moved to Paris in 1918 after Bessarabia decided to unite with Romania . She debuted on the stage as an assistant to her father in 1923, aged 9. By 1927, she was already performing solo A major step forward in her career was when she assisted Alexander Vertinsky in his famous show at the Hermitage Restaurant, Montmartre. Two years later, her family moved to Belgrade, while Bayanova went on touring in Germany Greece, Palestine, and Egypt. In 1931, she got acquainted with Pyotr Leshchenko, a foremost Russian singer of the time, who helped her to join the Pavilion Russe in Bucharest. She married a local aristocrat, George Ypsilanti, and made several recordings of tangos(e.g., Columbia, His Master's Voice). After her divorce from Ypsilanti, she signed a contract with the Polish recording company "Syrena-Electro".
In March 1941 Bayanova was arrested by the Romanian authorities and interned into a concentration camp for having performed in the Russian language. Although released in May 1942, she was kept under surveillance until the end of World War II.
In the 1960s and 1970s, while still living in Romania, Bayanova issued eight LPs. Nicolae Ceauşescu's government, however, pressed her into migrating to the USSR in 1988. Thereupon she settled in Moscow, making occasional appearances on the Russian television.
Bayanova was named People's Artist of Russian Federation and celebrated the 80th anniversary of her stage career in 2003. In 2004 she sang in a concert to celebrate her 90th birthday. Her last work was in collaboration with Marc Almond on several duets.
She died on 30 August 2011, aged 97, of cancer. Upon learning of her death, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev stated: “Her life was dedicated to the high purpose of bringing people joy through interaction with true art. Ms Bayanova had a rare, beautiful voice, and her mastery and heartfelt performances of Russian songs gained her recognition around the world.”

Dubravka Tomšič Srebotnjak Since 1967 she has taught piano at the Slovene Academy of music in Ljubljana, and since 1975 as a full professor. She has an astounding concert career and is often invited as a judge at the piano recitals including Van Cliburn, Leeds, L. v. Beethoven, Clara Haskil, etc. Dubravka Tomšič is a very much sought after performer, holding regular concerts all around Europe, Asia, North America, Mexico, Australia and Africa. She is credited with more than 3,500 performances and more than 20 record and 70 CD releases.
